Thank you for visiting my blog, which I started as a way to enhance an upcoming 50th birthday trip to the home of most of my ancestors. This blog will contain musings about all things Irish, as well as travel tips, book and movie reviews, restaurant and lodging reviews, and a rolling count of how many pints of Guinness we consume on the trip. Hope you enjoy traveling with us!

Time For a New Plan!
All attempts to confirm our stay in the countryside in Co. Clare have failed. The woman at Hillview B&B apparently doesn't want our business. Unfortunate in a way for us, because it's the only accommodation anywhere near where my Morey, Torpey and Powell ancestors lived. OK, then, time for a new plan! We'll be staying in the fishing village of Doolin, several meters from a famous pub and with views of the Atlantic! We'll be closer to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren and can enjoy a day trip over to east Clare to touch the soil once worked by my ancestors. No worries - we like the new plan even better! Rule #1 in travel: must be flexible.

I'm glad you moved on and found a good place. We have had travel with some B & B's in England and other places...trying to set up from US. One we did get...wish the truth in Advertising would have been mandated. 10 years ago near Stonehenge....its was so small/short ceiling...that you climbed a ladder to stay in the room. I think it was for Hobbits.
ReplyDeleteHi Pilgrim! It's always hard to know what you're going to get, isn't it? Funny how things turned out for us. We arranged to stay in Doonbeg but then never made it to Doonbeg! We had to cancel those plans and ended up staying in Doolin for three nights after all, and not at the place we'd originally planned! We rolled into Doolin at about 7:30pm, exhausted, frazzled from the drive, hungry and with no place to stay! someone hooked us up with the Dunroman B&B, which is a rather new, purpose-built B&B. I had sought out historic places with lots of charm, but what we got at Dumroman was a warm and loving welcome, lots of help and advice, and a wonderfully safe, homey environment thanks to the hostess with the mostess! :-) Just funny how the best-laid plans can change and how spontaneous decisions can be some of the best ones! It was a good challenge for my "plan down to the last detail" approach, and I'm happy to report that I went with the flow and had a great time! :-) Thanks for posting on my blog. I'm going to start writing again :-)
